In 1990, LDS Technology was created as a computer maintenance company. Two years later, with increasing demand from existing customers for custom-built PCs, the company expanded into building tailor-made systems.

By 1994, having gained a reputation as a network specialist and with the converging technologies of telephone and computing, it was a natural step into the role of Internet Provider. Dorset Internet was created, built on the strong, loyal customer base of LDS Technology.

Dorset Internet was the first Internet Service Provider in Dorset and, with its continued growth, is still the largest. It is also the only ISP that guarantees bandwidth, and therefore offers not only reliability but speed as well. It is no surprise that customers ranging from the private end-user to large corporations like the R.N.L.I and MoD, have chosen Dorset Internet as their Internet Provider.

Looking towards the future, Dorset Internet is once again going to use its experience and expertise to branch out in new directions.

Firstly, one of the main projects is going to be the manufacture and supply of hardware solutions for Internet connectivity and security.

Secondly, having established a strong alliance with British Telecom, ADSL will be introduced enabling users to connect at high speeds of 2MB per second. This compares dramatically with current modem speeds of 28 to 65 KB per second and will enable users to transmit voice and video at a previously unattainable quality.

Here, Dorset Internet will again be the most important local supplier because of its large bandwidth facility.
